My name is Laura Hill. I am a future teacher working towards a degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado. I am also working towards an endorsement in earth science. I grew up in Greeley, Colorado and graduated from Greeley Central High School in May of 2010. I have attended UNC for the last four years and have learned a ton of exciting teaching techniques, classroom management skills and lesson ideas. One of my favorite pass times is creating activities and educational games for students to use in and outside of the classroom.
My educational philosophy is that students should discover the joy of learning and know that learning is a life long process, that everyday we learn something new, whether we realize it or not. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential and succeed in everything they do by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. I believe that each student in my classroom is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.
In my classroom I am providing students opportunities to develop a deep caring and respect for themselves, others, and their environment through open sharing of ideas. I believe children have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and know that everyone makes mistakes sometimes, but we learn from them.
For myself, teaching provides a wonderful opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a very strong need for compassionate, entustiastic, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. I feel that I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator I can be!
